Journal about
Brighton
Introduction
paragraph:
On Tuesday, the
third of may, our class and about 10 of the other class and three
teachers met at the airport in Vienna. We delivered our suitcases
and waited for our airplane. After one hour and 30 minutes flight, we
arrived London. There we drove by bus to Brighton it lasted about two
hours, many pupils slept in the bus because of the strenuous trip. In
Brighton we drove to the ISIS school, the school which organized
everything and where we went every day except Saturday and Sunday).
In the school we waited for our host families to pick us up, Jessi
and I just waited about 30 minutes. We were very excited, because we
just knew how she’s named and where she lives. While we were
sitting in the class, waiting for Debbie, a teacher came in and told
us, that our host mother finally arrived. So we took our luggage and
went to Debbie’s car, her twin brother also went with her, and
drove “home”.
Describes
the family
Our host mother
is named Debbie Golding, she’s about 40 years old works in a
hospital near to her house as a nurse and lives in Brighton Hove. She
has a house with 4 bedrooms, one living room, a kitchen and a garden.
Debbie has a daughter and a granddaughter, her granddaughter is two a
lovely girl, they two don’t live with Debbie together. The two
girls just came two or three times to visit our host mother. Lilly
May ,her granddaughter, slept one night there, so we had to be very
quiet to fear of waking the little princess.
On our first day
we experienced that two other students lives with her and one of them
is named Sokio and the other one Jamie and Debbie said that one of
them is from Spain and the other one from Korea. So we thought that
Sokio is from Korea and Jamie from Spain, it sounds logical for us,
but that wasn’t so how we expected. On the fourth day we heard that
the man from Spain is named Sergio, not Sokio or Jamie and the woman
from Korea is names Jamie. It was so funny for Jessi and me. Sergio
is around 25 years old and he is there because he wants to improve
his English. The other student, Jamie, I think she’s 22 and she is
also there, because she wants to learn better speaking and writing in
English. Both students go to the ISIS school in Brighton, they two
don’t go every day to school. How I noticed they go to school just
when they want, because they pay the ISIS alone and if they want to
go to school to learn something they are allowed to. And if they
don’t learn anything for an exam it’s their own fault, because
when they finish their school they just get a certificate and there
stands if they are good in English or not.
Our host mother
said that most of her family lives in Los Angeles and she will go
there next year, she said that she would really like to go to Vienna.
Debbie heard a lot of Vienna, she said that many people said that
Vienna is a beautiful city with many various shops and many
possibilities for going out. Debbie cooked tasty and the dishes
looked very nice.
Daily
journal
On our first day
we went to school and had a very boring lesion after school we all
had an orientation tour through Brighton. We went through the city
and to the Brighton Pier and then to the Royal Pavilion that’s also
in Brighton.
Brighton had
originally of two Piers: The Royal Suspension Chain the Pier which
was substituted with the Palace Pier, and the West Pier. Today
Brighton has just one Pier for tourist purposes. The West Pier burnet
down in 2003, so today there’s just a skeleton of it, the other
Pier has many restaurants, bars, amusement arcades, carousel, to
states and a roller coaster.
The Royal
Pavilion was built in 1815-1822 and Prince of Wales Georg IV allowed
it to built. I personally think that it was very interesting and
wonderfully to consider, because of the dragons which were on the
wall and hold the chandeliers.
After this trip we
drove home and had lunch with our host mother and the two other
students. At eight o’clock Jessi and I drove back to Brighton and
meet our classmates. We went to the Brighton Pier and to the Coast of
the English Channel.
After that
day we again went to
school till half past 12 and then we drove by bus to the Hever
Castle. This Castle is one of the most beautiful castles in England,
so it’s said. The Hever Castle was built in the 13th
century, it offers much to see with tree floors containing antique
furniture, a large collection of Tudor paintings, Anne Boleyn’s
prayer books and instruments of torture. The Hever Castle has a
square yews-crazy garden and a water- labyrinth – this was very
funny. Afterwards we drove home by bus and when we arrived in
Brighton we missed our bus, so we had to wait 20 minutes. When our
bus came we drove home to Debbie and we three had lunch. The other
two students were in their rooms because they have a lot to learn. In
the evening we again drove to Brighton and meet our classmates. The
girls and I wanted absolutely to go to the Channel, because yesterday
the sight was wonderful. When I lied in my bed I was totally exhaust
and excited what will happen the next day.
On
the 6th
may, we got up at quarter past 6, because yesterday our host siblings
had a shower, exactly when we had to go in the bathroom - so we
decided to got up so early. I had breakfast and after that we drove
to our school. In school we did some grammar and read something about
the Brighton Pier. After school we drove by bus bowling, I played
with Manuela, Beate, Denise, Julia, Jessica and Victoria we had a lot
of fun. We bowled about two hours and after that Jessi and I went
shopping. On the Churchill square we saw a man who sold burgers and I
just wanted to eat one, but I wasn’t hungry so we first went
shopping to Primark, H&M and some other souvenir shops. I didn’t
bought a lot of things because I was worried that my luggage would be
too heavy. When we finished our shopping tour we bought a cheese
burger – it was the tastiest burger I’ve ever eat. At 7 o’clock
we drove home to Debbie and had lunch, after that we again drove to
the Brighton Pier.
The next day we
drove by train to London. When we achieved London we drove by Tube to
Madame Tussauds, I made a lot of pictures and I was glad to see Jonny
Depp, yes I know that this was just a wax figure but it doesn’t
matter.
Madame Tussauds
is a wax museum and it was established by Madame Tussaud. A woman who
learned making waxworks in France during the revolution. In 1802 was
the first opening of such a museum, after death of Madame Tussaud her
grandson relocated the museum on it’s today’s seat.
After this
exciting museum we had a sightsee tour, this was very hard and not
very good organized. At five o’clock we drove back to Brighton and
from Brighton to our “home”. We had lunch and reported our host
mother the trip to London. In the evening we went to the Pier and
went for a walk in Brighton.
On Sunday we
drove by bus to Brighton and meet our teachers and the other pupils.
When all pupils finally arrived we drove on by bus to Stonehenge and
after that to Portsmouth.
I just knew
Stonehenge from the background image of my laptop and in reality it
looks better than on pictures which I have seen. Stonehenge means
hanging stones and nobody knows how old this stones really are.
Earlier people were allowed to have parties and some other festivals
there, but today it’s no longer allowed.
In Portsmouth we
had to go in an old ship which is very, very, very old! And after
visiting this ship we traveled by ship and saw the other ships. After
that trip we drove back to Brighton and then “home”. At
approximately 7 o’clock we had lunch and talked a lot with our host
mother, Sergio and Jamie. In the evening we again drove to the
Brighton Pier.
A day after
Sunday we went to school and with our teacher made with us an
exercise. We had to made a plan how to steal a diamond with using the
if clauses. After school we eat something and then we went shopping.
I just had to buy something for my mother and naturally something for
me. At 6 o’clock we finished and drove back “home”, we were
exhaust and very hungry. Our host mother wanted to see everything we
bought, so we showed her and she made lunch. After lunch we pack our
luggage, I had a little problem because I couldn’t close it, so I
decided to put some things out, but that I would do on Tuesday.
On our last day
we stood up at quarter past six and made us ready to drive home.
Debbie has to go to work at 8 o’clock so she couldn’t take us to
the school and called a taxi for half past 7. While we made us ready
someone rang, the taxi was there – it was 7 o’clock and we
weren’t ready to go. Our host mother came and told us that we had
to go now, because if she calls a taxi now we won’t come punctual
to our school. Fast we packed our residual things, and went to the
taxi.
My
most exciting, funniest, most embarrassing, most positive and
negative impressions
My most funniest
was Stonehenge, because we made a lot of crazy pictures and had a lot
of fun.
Most exciting for
me personally was Madame Tussauds, because we went to the horror
part. I was so scared, I knew that this people will not touch me but…
What I absolutely
didn’t liked was the trip in London with ALICE! We had to go a lot,
Alice didn’t knew where we had to go and she didn’t knew anything
about a sight. So we all were angry, because we paid a lot of money
for someone who knew so much how we.
My
impression in general
I was happy to
live by Debbie, because she asked us what we don’t like to eat and
if we have siblings or not and so on. When we heard that the carpet
burned and came home, we were scared what she would say. Thanks god
she wasn’t angry and said that this is not so bad and we don’t
have to worry. She just said: “ Girls you are on holiday enjoy your
time, the thing with the carpet will be made besides, don’t worry!”
What I didn’t
liked was going to school, it would be okay if we had good teachers
who make a interesting lesion, but it wasn’t interesting- such
boring.
I think that I
learned a little bit fluently to speak, but a very big different
between before the trip and after, I didn’t recognize. If we would
go for an month then everybody will hear it, I think.
I would not
recommend the school, in which we were, because everything was so
unorganized and the guides mostly didn’t knew a lot about the
sights which we saw. One example for a confused and unaware teacher
is Alice…
But in general
the whole trip was very interesting, fun and contained a lot of hard
journey.
